the rich musical life of Queens’ which belongs to everyone regardless of their chosen subject or musical training
This term we asked for compositions which reflect on the theme “Home”. All of the submissions we received were of a very high standard, and the majority were by non-music students, reflecting the rich musical life of Queens’ which belongs to everyone regardless of their chosen subject or musical training. Congratulations to our finalists and thank you to everyone who participated.
Meet our finalists:
George Foster- Stay for a While
I’m a first year Natural Sciences student looking to specialise in physics, and I’ve been playing piano since I was 7 years old. I later started writing music when I was 13, taking large influence from contemporary dance and electronic music, and I now write and produce music in my spare time.
Alex Petrosyan- Prelude
I’m a PhysNatsci Msci graduate. I’ve composed on and off throughout my studies, and presented those works at MagSoc concerts whenever I could!
Kate Crellin- Home: Thoughts, from Abroad
I am an MMus student with interests in gender inclusivity within choral music and arranging. I chose to set the poem “Home-Thoughts, From Abroad,” as I felt it reflected my feelings of moving away from Queens’ due to COVID. Thank you for listening to my piece!
We hope that you enjoy listening to the compositions, and that creating, sharing and listening to music, of whatever kind, has been and will continue to be a source of comfort and joy in the uncertain times we are living in.
