This term we asked for compositions which reflect on the theme “Home”. All of the submissions we received were of a very high standard, and the majority were by non-music students, reflecting the rich musical life of Queens’ which belongs to everyone regardless of their chosen subject or musical training. Meet our finalists:
George Foster- Stay for a While
I’m a first year Natural Sciences student looking to specialise in physics, and I’ve been playing piano since I was 7 years old. I later started writing music when I was 13, taking large influence from contemporary dance and electronic music, and I now write and produce music in my spare time.
Alex Petrosyan- Prelude
I’m a PhysNatsci Msci graduate. I’ve composed on and off throughout my studies, and presented those works at MagSoc concerts whenever I could!
Kate Crellin- Home: Thoughts, from Abroad
I am an MMus student with interests in gender inclusivity within choral music and arranging. I chose to set the poem “Home-Thoughts, From Abroad,” as I felt it reflected my feelings of moving away from Queens’ due to COVID. Thank you for listening to my piece!
