Welcome back to college, and an especial welcome to our Queens’ Freshers!
A few notices from MagSoc to help you keep up to date with what music is happening around college this term and how to access musical facilities.
Practice Rooms
Queens’ Practice Rooms are now bookable via an online spreadsheet! (find it under the “Raven Zone”>”Bookings” section of the QJCR website).
Music Room One now contains two upright pianos!
Music Room Two contains an upright piano and a drumkit.
Note that the practice rooms are in general single occupancy, with the exception that two people are allowed, as long as you are both wearing masks the whole time and observing strict social distancing measures.
Queens’ College Chapel Choir
Queens’ College Chapel Choir are streaming Choral Compline and Evensong on Friday and Sunday evenings. Tune in via their YouTube channel!
Recitals
We are pleased to confirm that our recitals will be taking place in the chapel this term! On Monday evenings, from 2nd November onwards. (Our Freshers’ Recital, taking place on 19th October, will be a closed recital, for the performers only.) Subject to new developments in social distancing guidelines and advice from college, we will open up booking to small audiences and aim to have online streaming in place as well! You’ll hear more from us soon on that front.
Pianos
Our Grand Piano is currently living in the antechapel. Please email president@magsoc.net if you’d like permission to use this piano for serious practice. We are very grateful to Max, the Queens’ Chaplain, for letting us store the piano in this space, and to the Queens’ Organ Scholars, Robin and Ben, who are letting us use it! Please be courteous when using the piano, as they have priority over the space at all times, and aware that the chapel is also a space of quiet and worship.
If you’d like to have a keyboard in your room, we’re hiring out the MagSoc keyboard, for up to a week at a time, depending on availability and demand. Email president@magsoc.net if you’re interested.
MagSoc Chorus
We’re putting together a series of online talks for our lovely chorus this term- learn more about the series here.
MagSoc Orchestra
It is looking possible that we will be able to put a small string orchestra together this term! Stay tuned for more information.
As always, get in touch with me if you have any questions.
