MagSoc provides opportunities for student conductors to conduct each of its three main concerts every year – two large orchestral and choral concerts in West Road Concert Hall, and a smaller concert in Queens’ College Chapel. Conductors may take an entire concert by themselves, or a concert may be shared between two or more conductors. Normally, at least one conductor for each concert should be a current Queens’ student (undergraduate or postgraduate). Applications to conduct for each term are normally held at the end of the preceding term – for more information and to be notified when applications are open, please contact the MagSoc President (email@example.com).
MagSoc can also provide opportunities to conduct smaller events within college – see below for more information.
MagSoc can offer soloists the opportunity to perform a concerto with the MagSoc Symphony Orchestra. There is often a concerto slot available in one or both of our concerts in West Road Concert Hall each year. You will have the chance to play with a high quality orchestra in one of Cambridge’s premier music venues. For more information, or to discuss pieces and applications, please contact the MagSoc President (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Smaller concerts, recitals, and other events
MagSoc can assist with organising, funding, and publicising a variety of musical events, including opportunities to perform solo or small group recitals, short concerts, or even opera or musical theatre performances. Events can, with sufficient notice, be held in Queens’ College Chapel, the Old Hall, or (for staged performances) the Fitzpatrick Hall, or other venues outside Queens’. Events supported by MagSoc should normally be organised partly by Queens’ students and/or include Queens’ performers. For more information or to express interest, please contact the MagSoc President (email@example.com).
You can find a list of current Committee roles and members on the committee page. If you are involved in music at Queens’ (whether or not you are a member of the college) and interested in joining the Committee, please contact the MagSoc President (firstname.lastname@example.org).
